This was the topic addressed today by our CEO Sylvain Moulherat at the FIRM25 event organized by FEHRL, the international association dedicated to road equipment research.
This presentation enabled him to go back over the Bison project, to which TerrOïko made a major contribution, and whose aim was to build a European roadmap for transport infrastructures that fully integrate ecological issues.
Sylvain recalled the foresight work carried out as part of this project, which focused on four potential scenarios for the future
external areas of the project next year!
- the worst-case scenario, in which the multiplication of crises leads to a gradual collapse of transport systems, to the detriment of both human populations and biodiversity;
- the "business as usual" scenario, in which current practices change little and species decline continues
- the option of decarbonization at all costs, which would lead to accelerated development of transport infrastructures, without taking biodiversity issues into account.
- finally, the desirable scenario of simultaneous consideration of all environmental imperatives, which would simultaneously preserve mobility, provide more resilient infrastructures and alleviate pressure on biodiversity.
How do we get there? This is the purpose of the "Strategic Research and Deployment Agenda" resulting from Bison and published last year.
This document summarizes the lessons learned from the project and, above all, opens the next chapter: that of moving on to action and the far-reaching transformations that need to be undertaken.
In all, the agenda lists over a hundred objectives, recommendations and courses of action:
- on a structural level, in terms of public policy, regulatory harmonization, research and innovation, financing methods, etc.
- and at the operational level, on subjects such as project planning, impact assessment, taking into account new forms of mobility, the use of digital technologies, etc.
What's next? For our part, we have decided to tackle the central issue of financing tomorrow's sustainable infrastructures.
This subject is at the heart of the Forbes research project, which we have just launched. The aim is to provide regional planning stakeholders with evaluation tools that will enable them to reliably target investments towards the most virtuous operations and developments.
