As the year draws to a close, we have decided to write our list to Santa Claus. It is a rather special list, dedicated to biodiversity.
Today, we can assess the effect of light pollution and noise pollution on ecological continuity and species population dynamics using our SimOïko model.
We were delighted to work with more than 15 regions on the subject of black and white corridors, which remind us how crucial reducing light and noise pollution is for human health and biodiversity.
However, we regret that the effects of noise and light pollution on biodiversity are still not sufficiently taken into account in environmental project assessments. Even though the Environment Code (Art. R.122-20, 5 a) explicitly requires that their likely significant impacts on biological diversity, fauna, flora, soils, and landscapes be disclosed, noise and light pollution continue to be studied solely through the prism of human health.
So here are our wishes for a good start to 2026:
- Fully implement existing regulatory frameworks
- Ensure that 100% of projects, plans, and programs that identify a potential impact of noise and/or lighting on human health also include an appropriate analysis of its effects on biodiversity
What would you add to your list to Santa Claus for living things?
