CRERCO 2025 seminar: regional planning and the ERC challenge

A thesis and you move on?

In fact, the opposite is true.

Three years ago, our colleague Jules Boileau finished his thesis on the integration of the ERC sequence (avoid, reduce, compensate) into regional planning.

Since then, he has been taking the message all over France. And the lines are moving in the regions.

The ecological engineering roadmap is officially presented

We're sure you've already read the whole thing, but just in case...

Here's the link to the Green Engineering Roadmap: https://www.ecologie.gouv.fr/sites/default/files/documents/MTE_DGALN-Feuille-de-route-ingenierie.pdf

It was officially presented by the Ministry for Spatial Planning and Ecological Transition last week, and sets out the sector's priorities for 2030.

We bring you news on the PEP-BIOccIA project

A few weeks ago, the PEP-BIOccIA project officially changed its name to Gaia predict.

The new name reflects the project's mission: to map natural environments, predict the presence of species in the Occitanie region, and better plan the preservation of biodiversity. The term “Gaia” refers to the Earth. As for Prédict, it underlines the project's focus on predictive analysis and decision support for the sustainable management of our biodiversity.

TerrOïko on a mission: meeting cetaceans in the Mediterranean

You think we spend all our time behind a computer?
Well, not quite.

The day-to-day work of our ecological engineers involves conducting research, analyzing data and carrying out studies on behalf of public and private players.

So yes, most of the time we have our hands in statistics, modeling and mapping tools, scientific literature...

But when data or knowledge are lacking, we sometimes have to go out and find them, in the field.

A few days ago, our colleague Victor Gauducheau, a specialist in marine environments, cast off for a little trip out to sea.

How can we help reduce the risk of collision between trains and wildlife?

Last week, our CEO Sylvain Moulherat was invited to present our work on the subject at the Via Fauna technical seminar.

Via Fauna is a project launched in 2017 by the Fédération Régionale des Chasseurs d'Occitanie (Regional Federation of Hunters), which has led to the development of tools and methods for better integrating ecological connectivity into land-use planning projects and urban planning documents.

It’s the culmination of more than three years of work.

On Wednesday, December 18, our colleague Marie Soret will defend her doctoral thesis at the Maison de la Télédétection in Montpellier.

Her subject?
"Improving the consideration of species, their ecological needs, and the local landscape context in connectivity models for territorial planning."

The picture of a flower, the sound of a bird. What's next?

To make such data scientifically usable for training AI models or conducting statistical analyses they need to be annotated. This means enriching them with additional information, starting with identifying the species.

This was the focus of last week's EcoinfoFAIR conference, an annual event bringing together experts in informatics applied to ecology. Over three days, participants gathered at the CNRS Station for Theoretical and Experimental Ecology in Moulis.

TerrOïko at the Salon de la Biodiversité et du Génie Écologique 2024

We are pleased to announce that we will be participating in the Biodiversity and Ecological Engineering Show, which will take place inside the Salon des Maires et des Collectivités, from November 19 to 21, 2024, at Porte de Versailles in Paris.

Come meet us at Pavilion 3, at the UPGE (Professional Union of Ecological Engineering) stand, location A06.14, to discover our services, innovations, and projects in favor of biodiversity!
